The Spanish Government warned yesterday that a possible direct Israeli military operation on the city of Rafá, in the south of the Gaza Strip, would endanger the lives of the approximately one million Palestinian forcibly displaced people who have escaped to the town due to Israeli bombings. in the framework of the war against Hamas.

Rafá, in the extreme south of the enclave, is considered the last refuge of the Palestinian population of the Strip, who has been living for months in overcrowded conditions and inhumane conditions, as international NGOs have been denouncing since then.

It should be remembered that the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced on Friday afternoon that he had ordered the Army and the Ministry of Defense to begin preparations for a possible entry there with the aim of eliminating the four battalions of the movement. Palestinian Islamist Hamas who, according to their Intelligence reports, operate in the area.

In this context, the Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, warned that “extending military operations to Rafá would be a serious threat to the lives of more than a million Palestinian refugees in the area and would increase the humanitarian catastrophe,” reports Europe Press.

“We demand a ceasefire, the release of hostages, respect for International Humanitarian Law and the entry of aid,” the minister insisted in a message published on his account on the social network X, formerly Twitter.
