The Centro Cultural Coreano, in collaboration with the National Folk Museum of Korea, presents the event Hanbok 2024, on the occasion of the celebration of the Korean New Year according to the lunar calendar.
Hanbok 2024, the Seollal Festival, will take place from 12 to 23 February (except 17 and 18) in the Multipurpose Hall of the Cultural Centre. Admission is free.
Seollal refers to the first day of the lunar calendar (this year it falls on Sunday 10 February), one of the most important traditional festivals in Korea. The New Year’s Day celebration lasts for 3 days and many people return to their hometowns to visit their parents and relatives, where they perform an ancestral ritual, bow to their elders, dress up in Hanbok (traditional Korean dress) and entertain themselves with traditional games such as Yutnori, Cheguichagui, kite flying, etc.
Those who come to the Centre will be able to learn about the history of Hanbok, how to dress correctly and try it on, available for men, women and children in the Centre’s multi-purpose hall.
The aim of this event is to bring people closer to the traditions of Korean culture and to give them a better understanding of these traditions and of the Seollal or New Year in Korea.
