The Diplomat
The new ambassador of Serbia in Spain, Irena Šarac, has presented the Copies of her Credential Letters, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, before the introducer of ambassadors, María Sebastián de Erice.
Irena Šarac, who came to the Ministry on January 25, replaces Katarina Lalic Smajevic, who returned to Belgrade after a five-year stay in our country.
At the time of her appointment, the new ambassador was Acting Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Cooperation, after having been director for Asia, Australia and the Pacific.
With a degree in Philology from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Irena Šarac graduated in 2006 from the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and studied International Relations between 2008 and 2012, which she concluded with a thesis on “Multilateralism of the 21st century: relations of forces and manifestations of power in the United Nations”.
Throughout her diplomatic career she has held various positions abroad, among others in the Serbian Embassy in Athens, as well as in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, especially in Asian affairs. Also, given her command of Chinese, she has been sent on several occasions to the Serbian Embassy in Beijing, for events such as the Olympic Games or the preparation and celebration of the “Belt and Road” Summit).
