The Council of Ministers yesterday took advantage of the emergency declaration to adapt the basement of the chancellery of the Spanish Embassy in Ukraine with a view to its possible use as a safe haven in the event of an accident at a nuclear power plant, for an amount of almost 314,000 euros. Likewise, it authorized a maximum amount of 250,000 euros to help the Ukrainian Ministry of Health care for the victims of the Russian invasion.
Specifically, the Government authorized an amount of 313,956.28 euros for the contracting of the works necessary to install a filtering train that allows the renewal of the air in the basement of the chancellery of the Spanish Embassy in Kyiv, necessary for its use as a shelter. insurance in the event of an accident at a nuclear power plant.
According to the Council of Ministers, the Spanish Embassy in Kyiv informed the General Subdirectorate of Patrimonial Affairs of its concern about a possible radioactive leak as a result of a possible accident at the Zaporiya nuclear power plant, informing of the solutions adopted by other Western embassies and requesting that the necessary measures be urgently adopted for this eventuality.
These reasons justify the application of the emergency procedure to guarantee the safety of the personnel assigned to the Representation in the event of an accident at a nuclear power plant as a result of the evolution of the war conflict in Ukraine, considering that the budget for “situations that pose serious danger.”
Likewise, yesterday the Council of Ministers took into account the emergency declaration of the procurement of humanitarian aid to the population affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, for a maximum amount of 250,000 euros. This amount corresponds to the aid requested by the Ukrainian Ministry of Health from the European Union, within the framework of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, for the medical transportation of patients and war victims.
In response to the Ukrainian request, and after accepting the offer of help, the AECID Humanitarian Action Office will send two armored medical vehicles for the evacuation of patients, the Government recalled yesterday. The consignee of the aid will be the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, attended this past in the town of Herencia, in Ciudad Real, the ceremony of handing over the two ambulances, which were conditioned and medicalized by a Castilian-La Mancha company using two armored vehicles of the Spanish army.
