Iberdrola, through its American subsidiary Avangrid, announced yesterday that it will build a wind farm in Oklahoma, United States, of 147.5 MW with 33 turbines, and with which the firm hopes to supply a total of 40,000 homes.
“We are thrilled to develop our first renewable energy project in Oklahoma, which will deliver clean, renewable wind energy to the Pontotoc County community along with local jobs and investment,” noted Pedro Azagra, CEO of Avangrid.
The park, known as ‘Pontotoc Wind’, will generate around 500,000 MWh of energy each year, and the company believes that it will allow “accelerating a transition to clean energy in the state and throughout the United States,” reports Europa Press.
The energy company expects construction to begin in 2024 and generate more than 200 jobs. Additionally, the project “will contribute an estimated 25 million dolars in property taxes over the life of the project, benefiting local schools and other services.”
Avangrid worked “closely” with the US Air Force for several years to “carefully locate the project in an area that protects the Air Force mission.”
With more than 8.6 GW of installed renewable capacity, Avangrid is the third largest renewable energy operator in the US. Once the construction of this project is completed, the Iberdrola subsidiary will have operations or assets in half of the country.
