The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, has appointed former social democrat parliamentarian Wilma Andrade as new ambassador to Spain.
Wilma Andrade, 67, replaces Andrés Vallejo, who returned to Ecuador shortly after Noboa’s victory in the presidential elections last October.
Andrade, she presided between 2015 and 2020 of the Democratic Left party, to which Vallejo also belongs, and has been a parliamentarian in several periods since 2006. In the 2021-2023 legislature she was elected as vice president of the Economic Development Commission of the National Assembly .
Likewise, she was part of the World Forum of Women Parliamentarians, the ParlAméricas Open Parliament Network and the Permanent Conference of Latin American Parties.
The new ambassador, who was also vice mayor of Quito, has already received approval from the Spanish authorities, so she will soon join her position.
