UNWTO intends that the leading travel and tourism fair, FITUR 2024 (Madrid, 23-26 January), where Ecuador will be the official partner country, will once again become an important platform to drive innovation and collaboration in global tourism.
At this first major tourism event of 2024, UNWTO will place particular emphasis on the promotion of investment opportunities and the need to strengthen international partnerships. To this end, UNWTO will focus on three aspects.
Investment: UNWTO will organise major investment forums, such as the “Invest in Zambia” event. In addition, in collaboration with the Investment Bank for Latin America (CAF), it will officially launch its “Investment Guidelines for Ecuador” and “Investment Guidelines for Morocco”, providing comprehensive information on tourism investment prospects in these regions.
Sustainable Development and Climate Action: A meeting of the Committee on Tourism and Sustainability will address the challenges of sustainability in the global tourism sector. UNWTO will host a meeting of the signatories of the Glasgow Declaration, highlighting their shared commitment to address climate challenges in the tourism sector.
Coordination and collaboration: in addition, within the framework of FITUR, the UNWTO Secretary-General, Zurab Pololikashvili, will hold several bilateral meetings with the Ministers of Tourism of the different members of the Organisation, with a view to fostering collaboration and consolidating partnerships for a sustainable future for world tourism.
The UNWTO’s presence at FITUR underscores its commitment to fostering positive change in the sector. The organisation remains dedicated to the promotion of sustainable practices, responsible investment and global partnerships. UNWTO invites all stakeholders, industry professionals and the general public to join the dialogue at FITUR 2024.
