On Tuesday 6 February, the acclaimed Academy of St Martin in the Fields returns to Spain with an evening dedicated to Beethoven, Schubert and Schoenberg as part of Ibermúsica’s Barbieri Series 2023/2024, to be held at the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid at 19:30.
Conducted by violinist Julia Fischer (in the photo), who will also be the soloist, the programme will include Beethoven’s Romanzas No. 1 and No. 2, published respectively in 1803 and 1805. The ensemble will also perform Schubert’s Symphony No. 5, one of his most famous works in which the influences of Mozart and Haydn are reflected. They will close the performance with Schoenberg’s Transfigured Night, considered to be his first major work and inspired by Verklärte Nacht, Richard Dehmel’s poem of the same name, which tells the story of heartbreak between a man and a woman who confesses she is pregnant by a stranger as they walk in the moonlight through a dark forest.
The British Council invites you to enter this emotionally charged story with a prize draw for a double invitation to attend this concert. You can enter the draw before 25 January 2024 at 23:59 (CET). They will contact the winner on 26 January. For more information, please visit the Ibermúsica website.
