Tomorrow at 8 p.m., the Instituto Italiano de Cultura of Madrid presents the film Dante, by Pupi Avati, one of the great masters of Italian cinema.
The film tells the story of the poet through the words of Boccaccio, who in 1350 sets out on a journey to find Dante’s daughter. Along the way, Boccaccio traces the highlights of the Florentine-born poet’s life, from his meeting with Beatrice to his friendship with Guido Cavalcanti, from the wars between Bianchi and Neri to his entry into politics as prior and finally his “infinite exile”. Interwoven in the plot are the characters of the Divine Comedy, from Paolo and Francesca to Count Ugolino, in the form of stories that Dante collected throughout his pilgrimage. A journey that stretches through time, between the present and the past, and which, together with the profound humanity of the protagonists, offers the viewer a splendid gallery of villages, castles, churches and historic frescoes of central Italy.
The film stars Sergio Castellitto, Alessandro Sperduti, Carlotta Gamba, Enrico Lo Verso, Alessandro Haber, Leopoldo Mastelloni, Gianni Cavina and Erica Blanc. The screening will be in Italian with English subtitles. Free admission until full capacity is reached. Reservations must be made in advance at: alessandra.maluorni@esteri.it, stating the details of all the people for whom the reservation is being made and a contact telephone number.
