The Diplomat
Wednesday the 31st is the scheduled date for the traditional annual reception of His Majesty the King to the Diplomatic Corps, The Diplomat has learned.
On that day, every year, the head of State, accompanied by the Queen, the President of the Government and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, receives the ambassadors accredited to Spain, and gives a speech in which he congratulates them on the year and addresses the main issues that have marked the last twelve months and the challenges facing Spanish foreign policy. Previously, the Nuncio of his Holiness, as dean of the Diplomatic Corps, spoke a few words of congratulations to the head of State and the Spanish people. Once the speeches are over, the Kings offer a glass of wine to the ambassadors.
Only ambassadors who have already presented Letters of Credence to the Monarch can attend the reception, although all countries and international organizations accredited in Madrid are represented, normally by ‘number two’, if the ambassador is not present.
Precisely for this Wednesday, the 17th, the ceremony for the delivery of these Credentials by the new ambassadors of Italy, Giuseppe Maria Buccino, is scheduled to take place; Vietnam, Thanh Song Doan; Mozambique, Eugenio Agostinho Langa; Czech Republic, Libor Secka; Türkiye, Nuket Kucukel Ezberci; and Costa Rica, Adriana Bolaños Argueta.
Thus, all of them will be able to be present at the reception on the 31st, as will six other ambassadors who presented their Letters of Credence on the 12th: those from El Salvador, North Macedonia, Iran, Peru, Thailand and Angola.
On the contrary, unless there is another round of presentation of Credentials before the scheduled date for reception, a large group of ambassadors who are already in our country and have delivered their Copies of Style in the Royal Palace will not be able to go to the Royal Palace. Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These are the ambassadors of China, Algeria and Cape Verde and the ambassadors of Jordan, Mauritania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania.
