Next Wednesday, the Instituto Francés of Madrid opens in its Galerie du 10 the exhibition Portavoz 2023, sponsored by Susana Girón. The exhibition will run from 18 January to 21 February.
On display will be the 20 winning photographs from the Portavoz competition, selected by a jury of French and Spanish cultural professionals, and 10 photographs by the curator Susana Girón, which form part of her project Unlimited Youth.
Since 2019, the Portavoz competition has been promoting equality, respect and multilingualism through photography and, this year, through sport, giving a voice to students learning French in Spain. At the heart of a global sporting season that includes the Rugby World Cup, the Tour de France and the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the aim of the 2023 competition is to highlight the power of sport to generate spaces for coexistence that enable inclusion and intercultural dialogue.
This year, 845 students from 118 different classes from all over Spain submitted a photograph. During the first semester of 2023, workshops were held in schools in Madrid, Cuenca, Seville, Valencia, Zaragoza, Barcelona and Bilbao. The pupils were introduced to photography by Susana Girón and local photographers.
