The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, yesterday welcomed the LXXV Promotion of the Diplomatic Career, the second in history with a greater number of women than men, after the previous year’s promotion.

“I have welcomed the new 16 female diplomats and 12 male diplomats who join today their first assignment in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Albares stated through his official account in the social network X.

“The 75th promotion is the second with a majority of women,” he continued. It is “a plural and diverse promotion, like Spain, for a career in public service,” he concluded. The event took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Marqués de Salamanca.

This is the second promotion in history with a greater number of women than men. The first was the immediately preceding one, the LXXIV, made up of 35 people, 21 women and 14 men. The number of women who have entered the Diplomatic Career has increased over recent years, and the promotion of 2022, number 73, was the first equal in history, with 17 men and 17 women.
