The exhibition Amazônia, which has already been enjoyed by more than 95,000 people, will be extended until 21 January at the Fernán Gómez. Centro Cultural de la Villa de Madrid (Plaza de Colón, 4).
After almost five months in Madrid, Amazônia is the largest exhibition ever conceived to show the beauty and raise awareness of the fragility of the planet’s main ecosystem, the Amazon.
The exhibition is the result of seven years of work by the great master of photography Sebastião Salgado. The author, winner of the 1987 King of Spain Photography Prize and 1998 Prince of Asturias Award, has captured the grandeur of nature and its relationship with twelve indigenous communities in places never seen before in the Amazon rainforest.
Amazônia was conceived by Sebastião Salgado and Lélia Wanick Salgado, designer and curator of the exhibition. This exhibition, which has already been visited by more than 95,000 people in Madrid and 1.5 million people around the world, has more than 1,000 square metres, 203 photographs, 7 films and a soundtrack created by the musician Jean-Michel Jarre with the natural sounds of the Amazon captured by the Museum of Ethnography of Geneva.
