The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration has committed to contributing four million euros to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to carry out resettlement projects, assisted voluntary return and reintegration, labor mobility and social inclusion. This amount joins the 500,000 euros that the Ministry of the Interior will contribute to the same organization for assisted voluntary return and reintegration and integrated border management projects.
The agreement, in force since last November 14, was signed by the then minister of the branch, José Luis Escrivá (current Minister of Digital Transformation), and by the Head of Mission of the IOM in Spain, María Jesús Herrera Ceballos and was published this past weekend by the Official State Gazette (BOE). The agreement will remain in force until December 31, 2024 and, in any case, will remain in force until the completion of all projects and activities.
Based on the agreement, the Ministry undertakes to provide financial support to the IOM for the implementation of projects that fall within the thematic areas of resettlement, assisted voluntary return and reintegration, labor mobility and social inclusion.
To this end, the Department currently directed by Elma Saiz will provide financial aid of four million euros, distributed in 1.8 million euros for resettlement, 1.7 million for assisted voluntary return and reintegration and 500,000 euros for labor mobility and inclusion. social (200,000 euros to enhance the value of migrant associations in Spain, 150,000 for ethical communication about migration in the media and another 150,000 euros to support the Spanish authorities in the implementation of circular migration programs).
The collaboration between the Government and the IOM – associated with the United Nations and based in Geneva – is governed by the Framework Agreement between both parties of December 17, 2009, which establishes continued collaboration in the orderly and humane management of migrations.
The Ministry of the Interior has also recently committed to providing almost €500,000 to the IOM to carry out projects in the thematic areas of assisted voluntary return and reintegration and integrated border management. The agreement was signed in Madrid by the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez, and by the Head of Mission of the IOM in Spain and has been in force since last December 11.
