The Diplomat
The new Albanian Ambassador to Spain, Entela Gjika, presented the Copies of her Letters of Credence last week at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Entela Gjika, who was received by the ambassadors’ introducer, María Sebastián de Erice, replaces Gazmend Barbullushi, who has held the post for just over four years.
The new ambassador has been a career diplomat since 2002 and her most recent post, which she took up in February 2019, was as Director of State Protocol at the Albanian Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.
Throughout her career, Entela Gjika, has been posted at the Albanian Embassies in the United Kingdom – where she was Chargé d’Affaires between 2015 and 2016 – and Hungary, as well as at the Permanent Representation to the International Organisations based in Vienna. In the latter post, from 2007 to 2009, she served as Alternate Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency when Albania was a member of the Agency’s Board of Governors.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she was advisor to the Minister and worked in the UN and Regional Affairs departments. Before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she was Assistant to the Prime Minister of Albania from 1999 to 2001.
Entela Gjika holds a BSc in Biology and Chemistry and an MSc in Management and Public Policy Studies from the University of Manchester as a Chevening Scholar, a UK government global scholarship programme for postgraduate studies. She speaks English and is fluent in French, Italian and Spanish.
