On December 15, the Spain-China Council Foundation approved the 2024 Action Plan, whose main axes will be the fifteenth edition of Future Chinese Leaders, the reactivation of the Spain China Forum and the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the Foundation.
That day, the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid hosted the second and last General Meeting of the Board of Trustees in 2023, in which the activity of the Foundation in this coming year was also reviewed.
The Foundation’s activity in 2023 was very marked by the reactivation of mobility with China, including the recovery of the Future Chinese Leaders program – with an edition dedicated to transportation -, and by the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Spain and China in the modern era, which highlighted the holding of a round table, together with Casa Asia and the Spanish Exporters and Investors Club, to analyze the current moment of economic relations.
On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the general director for North America, Eastern Europe, Asia and the Pacific, Javier Salido; and (by videoconference) the Spanish ambassador in Beijing, Rafael Dezcallar.
During his speech, Salido pointed out that the year 2023 has been marked by the evolution of China’s relations with the European Union and the United States and by the “efforts to channel the relationship and reduce tensions.” He also welcomed the overcoming of the COVID-19 downturn, longer in China than in other countries, and the recovery of in-person activity, especially with the resumption of the Leaders program.
