As every Christmas, the ice rinks are back in the most central squares of Madrid, making skating the most winter sport.
One of the Christmas plans that can never be missed is ice skating. For all those who want to take part in one of the Christmas activities par excellence, these are the ice skating rinks in Madrid this year.
- Plaza de Colón Ice Rink
This 800 square metre ice rink in Colón is named after Javier Fernández, world champion and Olympic figure skating medallist. This is a great Christmas plan with children because there is also a merry-go-round and a street market. As well as enjoying the skating, the entrance fee is in aid of Down España, thanks to the fact that 10% of the proceeds are donated to this association. From 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. Open until 7 January 2024.
- Plaza de España ice rink
Plaza de España is the epicentre of Christmas in Madrid. In addition to a giant fir tree and a luminous nativity scene, this central space also has a large outdoor natural ice rink of 450 square metres. The opening hours are from Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 22:00 and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 to 22:00. On 24, 25 December and 5 January it closes at 6 pm.
- Matadero Madrid Ice Rink
The Matadero (Plaza de Legazpi, 8) is one of the largest ice rinks in the city, with 600 square metres of space for skating to your heart’s content. So much space is not wasted: there are free figure skating exhibitions organised by the Madrid Winter Sports Federation on 22, 27 and 29 December at 4.30 pm.
- Ice rink in the Galería de Cristal (Palacio de Cibeles)
The space becomes a fairytale Christmas card: with a huge decorated tree and a 400 square metre skating rink. This ice rink, the only one indoors, is one of the most typical and familiar images of Christmas in Madrid. What’s more, its glassed-in sky can’t be found anywhere else in the city. Check the opening times on the Madrid City Council website.
- Ice Palace
This space at Calle Silvano, 77 is open all year round for skating and other activities, such as hockey and curling. It is an Olympic-sized rink, with a total of 1,800 square metres. Public sessions run from Friday to Saturday throughout the month of December and the whole of the last week of December. The schedule varies from day to day and it is best to check in advance on their Instagram account.
- Leganés Ice Pavilion
The residents of Leganés are lucky enough to be able to enjoy 1,450 square metres of ice rink, one of the largest in the region, at Avenida de Alemania, 2. It is not necessary to book in advance, as tickets are on sale at the ticket office. The opening times and prices, which can be consulted on the website, vary depending on the days of the week. There will be no public sessions on 7, 14, 15 and 21 December.
