The Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico will be performing Los bufos madrileños from tomorrow, Thursday, until the 14th of January at the Teatro de la Comedia (Calle del Príncipe, 14), which recalls the figure of Francisco Arderius and the zarzuela bufa Los órganos de Móstoles.
The work has music by José Rogel and a libretto by Luis Mariano de Larra, being directed for this occasion by Rafa Castejón.
Francisco Arderius Bardán (Evora, Portugal, 1835 – Madrid, 1886) was a musician, impresario and performer famous for introducing Offenbach’s opera buffa formula to Spain. This style of short, funny and spicy musical theatre was a popular success in the turbulent years that preceded and followed the revolution of 1868, the Glorious Revolution.
He was the founder of the company Los Bufos Madrileños, which would later be called Bufos Arderius, and which produced many great productions until 1873, when it was dissolved. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
