The Diplomat
Madrid‘s Diplomatic Club, launched by the Prestomedia Group, of which The Diplomat in Spain is part, was launched on Tuesdayt at a ceremony held at the Dry Martini, which will be its permanent headquarters.
The inauguration of the Club, which is located in Casa Gallardo, at Calle Ferraz 2, was attended by some thirty ambassadors accredited in Spain, as well as representatives of the entities that collaborate with the initiative, which will begin its programme of activities in mid-January.
Yago González, CEO of Prestomedia Group, welcomed the ambassadors and then introduced Javier de las Muelas, owner of Dry Martini, who expressed his satisfaction at being able to put the cocktail bar, in a newly opened space, at the service of the Diplomatic Corps.
Yago González took the floor again to explain the philosophy of the Diplomatic Club, as a meeting point for ambassadors and a place to create links between them and prominent economic, political and cultural actors of our country.
For his part, Luis Ayllón, director of The Diplomat in Spain, pointed out that the creation of the Diplomat Club was a long-standing desire of the publication, which is about to celebrate its first decade of existence. He added that the integration of The Diplomat into the Prestomedia Group has made this aspiration a reality, the ultimate aim of which is to make it easier for ambassadors to carry out their work in Spain.
According to Prestomedia sources, the sessions held will take place twice a month, will be attended by experts on the different topics and will be developed under the Chatham House standard.
The round of interventions was closed by the Vice-President of the Council of Europe, Senator Antonio Gutiérrez Limones, who stressed the importance of diplomatic relations and told the ambassadors that he was fully at their disposal.
The Swiss Ambassador, Hans Peter Mock, reflecting the sentiments of his fellow ambassadors, expressed his gratitude for the launch of an initiative that he considered very useful for the development of his work in Spain.
The inauguration was attended, among others, by the ambassadors of Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cape Verde, Colombia, Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, Greece, Haiti, Iran, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and Vietnam, and representatives of the embassies of Angola and Senegal.
