Tomorrow, Thursday, the Hungarian Embassy presents the book Freedom, love, a poetic anthology by Sándor Petőfi, at the Hemeroteca Municipal de Madrid (Conde Duque, 9-11) at 6.30 pm.
2023 marks the bicentenary of the birth of Sándor Petőfi (1823-1849), probably the best-known Hungarian poet of all time. The creation of this anthology, published by the Hungarian Embassy, is the result of the hard work of young translators and the contribution of translation professionals from both Spain and Hungary. The twenty-five poems in the book deal with timeless themes, rooted in Hungarian Romanticism, which continue to resonate in the 21st century and show the relevance and universality of Petőfi’s poetry.
The event will be attended by Katalin Tóth, Hungarian Ambassador; Carmen Hervás Cortés, Deputy Director of Libraries and Archives of the Madrid City Council; Inmaculada Zaragoza García, Director of the Municipal Newspaper Library of Madrid; Alfonso Lombana and Marta Vilar, professors at the Complutense University of Madrid; the Hungarian translators Professors Dóra Bakucz and Gergő Tóth (virtual); the group of UCM students who participated in the translation, Miriam Palacios, Giuseppe Orrù, Esmeralda Díaz, Camila Parra and Gonzalo Gato; and Cristian Velasco, director of Velasco Ediciones.
