The Diplomat
On December 7th, the Nicaraguan Embassy celebrated the traditional Immaculate Conception of Mary in an atmosphere of Marian fervour and rejoicing, according to the communiqué of the Nicaraguan Delegation.
In front of a colourful altar, which reflected the creativity and devotion to one of the most popular traditions of the Central American country, diplomatic representatives from Bolivia and Venezuela, members of the Nicaraguan community living in Spain and friends of Nicaragua gathered to pray and sing.
During the event, “another Gritería was experienced in peace, in family, in faith, in values and in a culture of harmony”, reads the Embassy’s communiqué.
Ambassador Maurizio Carlo Gelli, as usual, “conveyed to those present the fraternal greetings from Nicaragua of President Daniel Ortega Saavedra and Vice-President Rosario Murillo,” the communiqué said. He also offered a few words in reference to the traditional “Gritería” that Nicaraguan families celebrate with joy throughout the country.
Afterwards, Father Nelson Acuña Estrada, Nicaraguan compatriot and parish priest of the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in the town of Calzada de Oropeso in the city of Toledo, together with the Nicaraguan resident in Madrid, Nayeli Payán, led the attendees to begin the prayers and traditional songs to “La Purísima”.
After the cry “¿Quién Casusa Tanta Alegría?”, the ambassador and other members of the Nicaraguan embassy handed out the traditional and popular “Gorra” to those present, ending with a raffle for the enthusiasm of young and old alike.
