The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) has announced a contribution of 200,000 euros to provide humanitarian assistance to communities affected by Hurricane Otis, which devastated the city of Acapulco, in the Mexican state of Guerrero, last October.
The announcement took place on November 30 at the North Naval Club in Mexico City, in the presence of the Spanish ambassador to Mexico, Juan Duarte Cuadrado, and the director of the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), Gloria Sandoval Salas.
During the event, the AECID delivered critical supplies, such as tents, first aid kits and other essential goods to those who suffered the impact of Hurricane Otis, the most powerful in the country’s history, which made landfall on the 25th. October and left 52 dead and more than thirty missing in Acapulco, according to official figures.
The AECID response addresses “as a priority the most pressing needs of the affected families, seeking an equitable and efficient distribution of resources and working in close collaboration with Mexican authorities, humanitarian organizations and other partners,” the agency indicated in a note. of press.
“This contribution underlines Spain’s commitment and solidarity in effectively responding to humanitarian emergencies,” it continued. “The AECID remains firm in its purpose to work together with the affected communities and federal actors to face current challenges and contribute to the reconstruction of Acapulco,” it concluded.
