Gross domestic product (GDP) in Spain grew by 0.3% in the third quarter, a figure that contrasts with the 0.1% decline in the Eurozone average and with the stagnation that has occurred in the European Union (EU) as a whole, according to data published yesterday by Eurostat.
Compared with the same quarter a year earlier, seasonally adjusted GDP remained unchanged in Q3 2023, compared with growth of 0.5% in the euro area and 0.4% in the EU in the previous quarter.
By state, Eurostat confirmed that Malta (2.4%), Poland (1.5%), Cyprus (1.1%) and Hungary (0.9%) scored the highest economic growth rates. At the opposite end of the scale, Ireland (-1.9%), Estonia (-1.3%) and Finland (-0.9%) recorded the most notable declines in GDP.
Meanwhile, U.S. GDP increased by 1.3% compared to the previous quarter (after +0.5% in Q2 2023). On a year-on-year basis, the U.S. economy advanced by 3%.
On the other hand, on the employment side, the number of employed persons increased by 0.2% in the euro area and the EU in Q3 2023 compared to the previous quarter. In the second quarter of 2023, employment had increased by 0.1% in both areas.
