From 7 to 17 December, Madrid’s Teatro de la Zarzuela will host one of the most iconic romantic ballets in the history of classical dance, La Sylphide, in a new production by the Compañía Nacional de Danza (CND) staged by the Danish ballet master Petrusjka Broholm, following the choreography by Auguste Bournoville.
The music by Herman Severin Løvenskiold will be performed live by the ORCAM, the resident orchestra of the Teatro de la Zarzuela conducted by maestros Daniel Capps and Tara Simoncic. CND conductor Joaquín de Luz will play the role of James in the performance on 13 December.
When the sylph meets James, the Scottish farmer, and enters with him into the world of beauty, an eternal love begins. Unfortunately for them, the witch and fortune-teller Madge has sworn revenge on James after he rejected her. A horrible evil that will lead to tragic consequences for the young lovers.
