The medical material to help Gaza evacuees in Egypt, committed last week by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, during his meeting with the Egyptian President, Abdel Fatah Al Sisi, arrived yesterday in Cairo, according to the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
The shipment, weighing 4.9 tons and worth 133,960 euros, includes oxygen concentrators, defibrillators, electrosurgical units, vital signs monitors and electric stretchers. The equipment, financed by the European Union through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and sent through AECID, had been requested by the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population to attend to dozens of patients evacuated from Gaza to Egyptian territory and their companions.
The material was received at Cairo airport by representatives of the Ministry of Health, the EU Delegation, the Spanish Embassy and the Spanish Cooperation Office in Egypt. With this donation, Spain supports Egypt’s role as a facilitator of humanitarian aid in the crisis together with the EU.
In addition, according to the AECID, this aid joins the support that Spain provides through international organizations of the United Nations and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to meet the humanitarian needs of the population in Gaza. Following the latest announcement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, of a new additional package of 26 million euros on November 8, “Spain has tripled this year its official aid to Palestine in development cooperation and humanitarian action, reaching a total of almost 50 million euros,” the Agency said.
