The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Spain, Omar Obaid Al Shamsi, recently participated in the prestigious congress “The Road to Peace: Dialogue and Action for Tolerance and Intercultural Understanding”. At this event, the ambassador highlighted “the fundamental role of the United Arab Emirates in promoting peace and tolerance at the global level”, according to a press release issued by the Emirati Embassy.
During his speech, Al Shamsi outlined the UAE’s ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting harmony, dialogue and intercultural understanding on the international stage. He also underlined the UAE’s commitment to collaborative efforts for a sustainable and harmonious global future.
In the same context, the Ambassador placed special emphasis on the UAE’s commitment to sustainability, through the announcement by its President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, that 2023 will be the “Year of Sustainability”.
This aligns with the country’s dedication to environmental conservation and sustainable development. In addition, Omar Obaid Al Shamsi shared perspectives on the UAE’s enthusiasm for hosting COP28, a crucial meeting that will play a pivotal role in addressing global environmental challenges.
The event featured prominent speakers, including Federico Mayor Zaragoza, President of the Culture of Peace Foundation and former Director-General of UNESCO, and Alberto Guerrero, President of the Federation of UNESCO Centres and Clubs in Spain. Their contributions, along with interventions by other experts and researchers, added depth to the discussions on fostering a culture of peace, tolerance and intercultural understanding.
