Once again, the 29th edition of the Gospel Greatest returns to the Guirau Hall of the Teatro Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa, until 10 December.
This year we will be able to enjoy two in-house productions by The New Orleans Gospel Stars and Chicago Mass Choir; a tribute to a city and a tribute to a musical legend with deep roots in gospel, B.B. King and Harlem Gospel Choir with a tribute to Whitney Houston. In addition, the Festival classics for the whole family, with Gospel4kids and the closing of the festival by Madrid Oh Happy Day.
The New Orleans Gospel Stars will be taking us through the musical history of the city where there is always music in the air. The concert programme recreates the old hymns of the American deep south, includes a selection of big hits with roots in the city and gives visibility, for the first time in a gospel programme, to the Jazz Funeral, an icon of New Orleans that has its origins in the spirituals that congregations sang in churches.
Chicago Mass Choir presents B.B. King Spiritual. In this production this choir revives the pure gospel music recorded by the blues legend in 1959 on the album B.B. King Sings Spirituals. An emotional return to the church songs of his childhood in Mississippi, in which the Chicago Mass Choir pays homage to B.B. King and brings back to the stages of the present the old hymns that bring back to the audience the fire and beauty of the past. The programme and tickets can be purchased at this link.
