The Consul General of Spain in Naples, Juan Antonio Martín Burgos, died on Tuesday, after suffering a stroke, when he was in Bari carrying out various procedures related to his position, diplomatic sources informed The Diplomat.

 

Juan Antonio Martín Burgos was 62 years old, had a degree in Law, and had joined his position last August, after having been in charge of the diplomatic antenna of Spain in Moldova, as chargé d’affaires ad interim on secondment. in Chisinau.

 

A legal expert, Martín Burgos had also been head of the area of International Security Affairs, head of the International Legal Advisory Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and deputy director general of Community Legal Affairs.

 

Likewise, throughout his long career, which began in 1987, he held second positions at the Spanish Embassies in Germany, Canada and Singapore, and was posted at the Embassy in Washington and, on two occasions, at the Spanish diplomatic representation. before the EU. Likewise, he worked for a few years in the Gibraltar Affairs Office.
