The Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra; and the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, both in office and leaders of Podemos, have signed, along with 75 other political officials from Europe and Latin America, a letter, which they have addressed to the International Criminal Court (ICC), in which they claim that The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, is tried for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide against the Palestinian people.

At the same time, Belarra has released a video through her social networks, where she defends that in the face of “the criminal state of Israel” we must “take action” against this “live genocide” to “promote a ceasefire and end it.” this barbarism.”

“We are not going to allow a genocide with our silence and our complicity,” emphasizes the leader of Podemos, encouraging all citizens to support the judicial initiative with her signature on the ‘justiceforgaza.info’ page.

The second vice president of the acting Government Yolanda Díaz demanded, for her part, on Monday that the Executive to which both she and Belarra and Montero belong, call the Spanish ambassador in Tel Aviv, Ana Salomon, for consultations, as a measure of pressure on the Government of Israel.

Together with the two ministers of Pedro Sánchez’s Cabinet, they sign the document – promoted, among others, by the former leader of the British Labor Party Jeremy Corbyn, other officials of the purple formation such as deputies Lilith Verstrynge (also acting Secretary of State for the 2030 Agenda), Javier Sánchez Serna, Martina Velarde and Noemí Santana; and the party’s co-spokespersons Pablo Fernández and Isa Serra.

They are joined by MEPs María Eugenia Rodríguez Palop, Idoia Villanueva, Miguel Urbán (Anticapitalistas), Pernando Barrena (Bildu), Manu Pineda (IU), Diana Riba (ERC) and the leader of ERC in Barcelona City Council, Ernest Maragall.

The letter has also been signed by Gabriel Rufián, ERC spokesperson in the Congress of Deputies, as well as by regional deputies such as Oihana Etxebarrieta (Bildu), Jenn Díaz (ERC) or Alejandra Durán (Vamos).

At the international level, the text is signed by officials such as the general secretary of the Belgian Workers’ Party, Peter Mertens, several deputies from Chile, Mexico and Bolivia, and various MEPs from progressive forces.

The petition, which is also directed against members of the Israeli Government such as Defense Minister Yoav Galant, is formulated under Article 15 of the Rome Statute and specifically requests the Court to expand the investigation that began in 2021 against Israel for crimes of war in light of the events that have occurred since last October 7, in response to the Hamas attack, among which are armed actions against refugee camps, the use of white phosphorus or the bombing of the Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza .
