The Ambassador of Ecuador to Spain, Andrés Vallejo, has recently terminated his mission, coinciding with the inauguration of the new President of the country, Daniel Noboa. It has not yet been announced who will replace the veteran Ecuadorian politician at the head of the Embassy in Madrid, from where Ecuador is also represented before the governments of Andorra and Morocco.

Vallejo has served just over 18 months at the head of the Ecuadorian representation in Madrid, where he took office on May 18, 2022. His appointment by the then president, Guillermo Lasso, caused some surprise since the former mayor of Quito is part of the Democratic Left party, which at that time was in the opposition.

One of his last public acts in Spain was the donation to the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid of four specimens of the millenary cacao plant ‘fino aroma’, as a symbol of the union of both countries.

Vallejo, 81 years old, has held numerous positions in Ecuadorian politics, including deputy, president of the National Congress; of the Monetary Board; of the National Defense Commission, Minister of Government and Mayor of Quito.
