On December 2nd, the Teatro Real will premiere a new production of the opera Rigoletto, by Giuseppe Verdi -in co-production with the ABAO Bilbao Ópera and the Teatro de la Maestranza of Seville-, which will be offered 22 performances, until January 2nd, 2024.
Miguel del Arco, responsible for the staging, portrays the power struggles, depravity and cruelty of a corrupt and degenerate society, in which only the pure love of Gilda glimpses a ray of light and hope. Sven Jonke’s spectacular scenography and Juan Gómez-Cornejo’s suggestive lighting design accompany the tensions of the drama and the contradictions, passions and feelings of the characters, portrayed with Ana Garay’s powerful figurines.
Nicola Luisotti, who already conducted Rigoletto at the Teatro Real in 2015, will do so again at the helm of three stellar casts and the Teatro Real’s Titular Chorus and Orchestra. Christoph Koncz will conduct four performances.
The leading quintet will be brought to life by baritones Ludovic Tézier, Étienne Dupuis and Quinn Kelsey (Rigoletto), tenors Javier Camarena, Xabier Anduaga and John Osborn (Duke of Mantua), sopranos Adela Zaharia, Julie Fuchs and Ruth Iniesta (Gilda), basses Simon Lim, Peixin Chen and Gianluca Buratto (Sparafucile) and mezzo-sopranos Marina Viotti, Ramona Zaharia and Martina Belli (Maddalena).
