This past Wednesday, the Council of Ministers authorized a voluntary contribution of 250,000 euros to the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for the financial year 2023.
The DAC is the OECD body responsible for promoting the coordination, effectiveness and adequate financing of international efforts in favor of the economic and social development of developing countries. Spain participates in the Committee through the General Directorate of Sustainable Development Policies.
The 32 donor countries are grouped together in the Development Assistance Committee, which is financed by contributions from its member states (part through mandatory contributions to the OECD and part through voluntary contributions) and channels a substantial percentage of the public aid for development in the world.
Spain supports the CAD annually through voluntary contributions to the general budget and with specific contributions to certain committees or work programs that are of special relevance for our country.
The proposed contribution to the CAD this year is 250,000 euros. The main item, 100,000 euros, will be allocated to the general budget of the Committee, whose lines of work include the definition of standards and measures for official development aid, carrying out peer reviews of member countries or the work of networks. and specialized groups associated with the Committee (Statistics Working Group, EVALNET, GENDERNET, ENVIRONET, INCAF, IDPS, etc.).
Separately, €50,000 will be dedicated to the Community of Practice on Poverty and Inequality (peer learning, gathering evidence and developing good practices to address the effects of poverty and economic and social inequality, including between social and economic groups). economically marginalized), another 50,000 euros for the Fragile States Working Group (INCAF) and the remaining 50,000 euros for the Triangular Cooperation work line.
