Author: José Julián Barriga Bravo.
This afternoon at 6.30 p.m., Editorial Pigmalion Edypro presents the book En defensa de la Transición. Memoria de un testigo afortunado (In defence of the Transition. Memory of a fortunate witness), by José Julián Barriga Bravo.
Speakers at the event will include Diego Hidalgo Schnur, founding honorary president of FRIDE and the Club de Madrid; Fernando González Urbaneja, president of the FAPE Commission on Journalism Ethics; Basilio Rodríguez Cañada, president of Grupo Editorial Sial Pigmalión, and the author, José Julián Barriga Bravo.
This book is not just another history of the Transition, but the chronicle written by an eyewitness to the events narrated. It is the account of a journalist who worked for more than forty years alongside the protagonists of the most flourishing and exciting period in the history of Spain, and who lived those events from the front row or from the sidelines, and sometimes from the bullring itself, with the aim of narrating them in the newspapers of the time, with the sole exception of the almost four years that the author worked in the Moncloa, first as director of the News Services and later as director general of News Relations during the governments of Adolfo Suárez.
The account, documented and illustrated with his personal experiences, narrates the most important moments of the period and describes the personalities of the main actors on the political scene, with special emphasis on the relationship that united the author with President Suárez. In Defence of the Transition. Memoria de un testigo afortunado closes with a commitment to defend the legacy of the Transition and the values that made it possible: dialogue and a desire for consensus in a climate of freedom and tolerance.
