Tomorrow, Wednesday 22nd November, is International Music Day and to commemorate this date, Casa Asia (Calle Mayor, 69) is organising at 7pm a small recital of Kazakh, Russian and some Spanish songs with Arabic influences, by the Kazakh singer Aida Turganbaeva (in the photo) and the Russian pianist Alexandra Andreeva.
Music plays a very important role in the life of the Kazakh people, as everything from birth to death is impregnated with melodies that accompany ceremonies, rituals, festivals and everyday life. Traditional Kazakh music is closely linked to the country’s folklore. Legends and epic deeds have been recounted for centuries, often with improvised music accompaniment.
In the 19th century, with the arrival of Russian colonial troops, there was a cross-fertilisation: Russian and European musicologists studied Kazakh music and Kazakh music began to acquire influences from all over the world. In this recital we will listen to Russian pieces, Kazakh pieces and also some Spanish songs which in the artists’ opinion have a certain similarity with the music of Kazakhstan.
