At least 16 resident ambassadors and a smaller group of non-residents are waiting to be summoned to present their Letters of Credence before the King, at the Royal Palace.
The 16 ambassadors are already in Spain, some of them for more than half a year and have already passed through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to deliver the Copies of their Credential Letters, a step that allows them to carry out their task now. in the country.
However, until they proceed to deliver their Letters of Credence, they will not be able to participate in the official acts presided over by the head of State. As a result, many of the affected ambassadors were unable to attend the National Holiday Day events on October 12.
The last ceremony for the delivery of Credential Letters took place on May 23, that is, almost six months ago, and then the new ambassadors from Venezuela, Nicaragua, the United Arab Emirates, Gambia, New Zealand and Kazakhstan came to the Royal Palace.
On that date, several more ambassadors had already arrived in Madrid to carry out their duties, but they were not included in that ceremony: those from North Macedonia, Edmond Ademi; Peru, Walter Gutiérrez; El Salvador, Joaquín Alexander Maza Martelli; Iran, Reza Zabib; and Thailand, Vosita Vorasaph. Normally, Casa Real makes groups of six or seven ambassadors for the presentation of Credentials, rigorously following the order of arrival to our country and the delivery of the Copies of their Letters to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Although several more ambassadors arrived shortly afterwards and it would have been possible to hold a new ceremony for the delivery of Credential Letters, this has not occurred.
To the ambassadors of North Macedonia. Peru, El Salvador, Iran and Thailand are joined in the group waiting to present their Letters of Credence by those from Italy, Giuseppe María Buccino Grimaldi; from Angola, Alfredo Dombe; and from Vietnam, Dohn Hanh Song, all of whom arrived in Madrid in June; as well as the ambassadors of Mozambique, Eugenio Agostinho Langa, who arrived in July; and from the Czech Republic, Libor Sečka; that he did it in August; the ambassadors of Costa Rica, Adriana Bolaños Argueta; from Türkiye, Nüket Küçükel Ezberci; from Jordan, Raghad A. Alsaqqa; Mauritania, Zeineb Ely Salem, all of them arriving in the month of September. Also the new Chinese ambassador, Yao Jing, who has been in Madrid since the beginning of October; and the ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vesna Andree-Zaimovic, who arrived a little later that same month.
For the last half year, Spain has been immersed in electoral processes and, although since July 23, the Government was in office, the King was not and could carry out the task of receiving Letters of Credence. However, the uncertainty of recent months has made it difficult to set the Monarch’s agenda in good time, and this week, for example, he is awaiting the swearing-in or promise of office of the ministers of Pedro Sánchez’s new government.
