The Embassy of Italy presents the 8th Italian Cuisine Week in Spain, which runs until 19 November in 14 cities.
The main objective of this annual event is to promote the candidacy of Italian cuisine for UNESCO Intangible Heritage status, as well as to bring knowledge of its origins and qualities to the rest of the world and its flavours to the general public, as many restaurants have special dishes and menus for the occasion.
As it does every year, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) promotes Italian Cuisine Week worldwide in November. This year’s 40 activities were presented at a press conference at the Italian Consular Chancellery in 14 provinces: Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Cordoba, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Granada, Lanzarote, Salamanca, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Seville, Valencia, Vigo and Vitoria. The Italian ambassador, Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, took part in the presentation, explaining the relationship between all of the axes that make up this action and pointing out that “cuisine is culture, it is society and allows the growth of both the individual and others”.
Also in attendance was Víctor Francos, president of the Consejo Superior de Deportes, who pointed out “the great options of Italian cuisine for healthy eating and, therefore, favourable for our sportsmen and women” and also “for those children who see in them their future role models”. Also present at the event were former volleyball player Rafael Pascual and former footballer Amedeo Carboni.
In this eighth edition, three areas have been sought around which the different actions revolve: the cultural-gastronomic, the social and the sporting. As always, the first to be involved are the restaurants in the different cities, which are committed to the ‘Taste of Italy’ and decorate their menus during these days with special dishes and menus typical of specific regions. The participating restaurants can be consulted at this link.
The link created in this edition with the world of sport, with the collaboration of the Consejo Superior de Deportes in places such as the Centro de Alto Rendimiento de Madrid and Residencia de deportistas Joaquín Blume; with renowned chefs such as Andrea Tumbarello, gastroenterologists, endocrinologists and sports personalities in various conferences.
As for the social aspect, a fundamental aspect of Italian cuisine, which also coincides with the values of Spanish cuisine, will be highlighted: the fact of being together, which takes the form of gatherings of family, friends, acquaintances and newcomers around a table.
All the activities of the 8th Italian Cuisine Week in Spain can be found on the social media profiles of the Italian Embassy and on its website.
