The Instituto Cervantes will hold the last call of 2023 on November 17 and 18 to obtain the official Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE), to which more than 31,000 candidates apply in a total of 93 countries. The total number of applicants for all of this year’s tests will thus exceed 132,000, with an increase of 11% compared to 2022.

“With this growth in the DELE at a global level, the most important in recent years, the recovery that began in 2022 after the pandemic is consolidated,” the Instituto Cervantes indicated this past Friday in a press release. The tests will be held in a total of 558 exam centers spread across 420 cities around the world.

DELE diplomas are official titles accrediting the degree of competence and mastery of the Spanish language, granted by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training of Spain. The Instituto Cervantes offers six DELE Spanish exams for adults and two for schoolchildren. The exams can be taken in the various sessions that the Instituto Cervantes holds annually in more than a thousand exam centers around the world. The November call is the second most important of the year in terms of volume of applicants, behind the one in May.

DELE diplomas are internationally recognized and enjoy great prestige, not only among public and private educational institutions and authorities, but also in the business world and among chambers of commerce, where they constitute an official guarantee in the evaluation and certification of competence. linguistics in Spanish. In many countries, DELE have been adopted by educational authorities and formal education centers as a complement to their own evaluation programs.

On the other hand, next Wednesday, November 15, the registration period will open for all DELE 2024 tests, which will be carried out in the months of February, April, May, July, September, October and November. Candidates can register to take the exam in any of the seven sessions over the next year.
