Through a letter addressed to the acting ministers of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, and of Justice, Pilar Llop, the Commissioner of Justice, Didier Reynders requests more details and information about the Amnesty Law that the PSOE is negotiating to achieve the support of Junts to the investiture of Pedro Sánchez.

In his letter, the Commissioner of Justice begins by mentioning the situation of the renewal of the Spanish governing body of the CGPJ judges. “There has been no progress in its renewal, despite the urgency,” insists the European commissioner. “No steps have been taken to adapt the procedure for electing judges taking into account European standards,” says Reynders. Furthermore, he insists that after the general elections of July 23 he has insisted on the need to reach agreements to end an interim period that has already lasted more than five years.

Regarding the Amnesty Law whose text is being negotiated in Brussels by the delegations of the Socialist Party and Junts, with the former president of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont at the head, the commissioner addresses the ministers in the following terms: “I would appreciate it “to provide me with more detailed information, in particular about the personal, material and temporal scope of this planned law.” And, he adds, that “although at the moment there is no formal proposal, it has become an issue of considerable importance in the public debate and the Commission has been contacted about it, including by a large number of citizens.”

The letter was published in its entirety on the social network X by the president of the Justice Commission of the European Parliament, the Spanish Adrián Vázquez, member of the Renew group and general secretary of Ciudadanos, thanking the commissioner for his concern about the political situation in Spain.
