Fundación Alternativas presents its Report on the State of the EU 2023

Tomorrow, Wednesday at 11 a.m., Fundación Alternativas presents its Report on the State of the European Union 2023 at the headquarters of the European Commission in Spain (Paseo de la Castellana, 46), in view of a new European legislature.

The year 2023 has once again shown how important the unity of Europe is. Even and especially after the attack on Ukraine in violation of international law, the European Union (EU) is the strongest response to today’s threats and more than ever the common promise for a better future in the 21st century. In a multipolar international context of growing power rivalry, dealing with multiple crises such as war, climate change, social inequality and the rise of populism represents the greatest challenge the EU has faced since its foundation. In May 2024, Europe’s citizens will vote on the composition of the European Parliament. In doing so, they will decide the EU’s political priorities and its capacity to act.

The event will be presented by Diego López Garrido, Executive Vice-President of the Fundación Alternativas, and María Pallares, Programme Coordinator of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Madrid and Coordinator of the State of the EU Report, with a special address by Pascual Ignacio Navarro Ríos, Secretary of State for the EU. It will be followed by a debate in which Elena Muñoz, State Coordinator of the Legal Service of the Spanish Refugee Aid Commission CEAR and author of the report, and Enrique Ayala, author of the report and member of the European Affairs Council of the Fundación Alternativas, will participate.

The debate can be attended in person by registering on this form, or via the Foundation’s YouTube channel.
