The Diplomat
Underlining the importance of COP28 and the UAE’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainability were the objectives of the lecture ‘COP28: A Climate Summit of Global Importance’, given at IE University by the head of the Economic Department of the Emirati Embassy, Ali Al Nuaimi, accompanied by Chargé d’Affaires, Ibrahim Al Nuaimi.
At the event, less than a month before the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change begins in Dubai, “the students had the opportunity to learn about the UAE’s leadership vision, which seeks to advance the sustainability, renewable energy and climate resilience agenda, further strengthening the country’s position as a key player in the global fight against climate change,” the Embassy said in a statement.
Ali Al Nuaimi said during his speech that COP28 “is shaping up to be a pivotal moment in global efforts to address climate change” and stressed “the UAE’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.”
The organization of COP28, the Embassy said in its statement, “reflects the UAE’s vision of fostering international collaboration and innovation, with the event serving as a platform to promote meaningful discussions, actions and solutions to address climate-related issues and accelerate the transition to a greener, more sustainable future.”
Emirati culture in interactive sessions
On the other hand, both diplomats presented, in the interactive session ‘Exploring the Traditions of the UAE: A Cultural Journey with IE University Students in Madrid’, an immersive experience that included music, art and traditional Emirati cuisine. Students had the opportunity to interact with diplomats and cultural experts from the Embassy, who shared knowledge about the customs, values and heritage of the United Arab Emirates.
The interactive sessions allowed students to develop a deeper appreciation of Emirati traditions and culture, providing a platform for cross-cultural dialogue and the creation of lasting connections.
