On Tuesday 31 October, a framework collaboration agreement was signed between the Embassy of Haiti and the Círculo de Bellas Artes (CBA), with a view to strengthening cultural cooperation between Haiti and Spain.
As the CBA expands its network of accredited embassies in Spain, Haiti will become part of this private institution dedicated to the promotion of art and culture, at the same level as several European countries.
Through this agreement, both parties undertake to establish a framework of institutional cooperation between them in order to promote joint activities related to culture; to draw up a specific agreement for each of the planned joint programmes, setting out the work plan, the proposed objectives and the resources needed to achieve them; and, finally, to create a joint coordination committee made up of representatives of both institutions to study proposals for specific agreements.
Haiti will be the first Caribbean country to join the institution. “Our adhesion to the CBA will allow the Embassy to promote Haitian culture and art through exhibitions, film screenings, literature, philosophy and performing arts, among others,” said the Haitian ambassador, Gay Lamothe, during the ceremony.
The Círculo de Bellas Artes is a private non-profit organisation whose purpose is the production, organisation, promotion and dissemination of cultural activities and scientific dissemination in all its forms (concerts, presentations, exhibitions, etc.).
