Tomorrow Friday and until 31 December, the Polish Embassy, in collaboration with the Planetario of Madrid and the Instituto Polaco de Cultura, presents an interactive installation of the B61 Institute The Copernican Principle.
The Copernican Principle is defined as the most important assumption of modern cosmology, stating that the Earth has no privileged place in the Universe. This is an exhibition of contemporary art and science by the B61 Institute, an international art and science collective founded in Toruń during the UNESCO International Year of Astronomy 2009, which mainly addresses issues related to space exploration.
The installation consists of arcade machines that address important philosophical, ecological and social issues in an accessible and educational way. Each game presents an issue that humans must deal with in order to ensure their survival and venture into the unknown. Thus, “The Copernican Principle” includes games dedicated to, among other things, bases on the moon, the problems of climate change, and even rubbish in space. At the end of each game, the user has the option of using an interactive chatbot that presents the question in a broader context, explains what the “new Copernican revolution” will consist of, and also presents the figure of Nicolaus Copernicus and his discoveries in a classical way.
The Cosmic Perspectives lecture, which will open the exhibition this evening at 18:00 in the Planetarium’s projection room, will be given by Dr Jan Świerkowski (pictured), founder of the B61 Institute. The lecture will be given in English. Free admission by reservation at this link.
