Coinciding with the celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day, the Casa de México en Málaga y Andalucía was presented on September 15 at the headquarters of the Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País. The event was presided over by the Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, and Claudia Luna Palencia, journalist, writer and president of the entity being presented.

In her speech, Claudia Luna Palencia commented that the date of the presentation was chosen precisely to coincide with the commemoration of the ‘Grito de Dolores’, launched by the priest Miguel Hidalgo on the night of September 15 to 16, 1810, and with which the Mexican war of independence began.

The House of Mexico in Malaga and Andalusia is a private organization born from the will of a group of businessmen and citizens, Spanish and Mexican. Its objective is to promote sports, cultural, gastronomic, economic and commercial ties between Mexico and Andalusia. In addition to all this, there are other social purposes, such as the granting of scholarships for students with limited resources.

At the moment the House of Mexico in Malaga lacks a headquarters but the objective, according to its promoters, is to have one that can house a museum of Ibero-American sculpture, a cafeteria, a restaurant and an exhibition hall.

Casa America of Malaga and journalist Jose Antonio Sierra also participated in the organization of the event. Among the attendees were the dean of the Consular Corps in Malaga, Rafael Perez Peña, and the consular representatives of Ivory Coast, Chile, Cyprus and Uruguay, among others.
