Lisbon will host the 8th Ibero-American Congress on Culture from November 15-17, a meeting promoted by the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), the Portuguese Ministry of Culture, the Camões-Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua and the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB).

The event will take place at the Centro Cultural de Belém under the theme Culture, Citizenship and Cooperation. The previous edition was held entirely online from Mexico City in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, but this time it will be held in hybrid format, with live streaming to ensure the largest number of participants from all over Ibero-America.

During the congress, the role of culture in the consolidation of an Ibero-American cultural citizenry and the urgency of promoting sustainable and innovative territories will be debated, while the proposals submitted by citizens in De Viva Voz (Orally), an initiative that seeks to enrich the working tables of the congress with innovative proposals from Ibero-American citizens, will also be presented.

The Ibero-American Congresses of Culture have been held since 2008 and deepen the spirit of the Ibero-American Cultural Charter, approved at the XVI Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government in 2006, held in Montevideo, as a political instrument to guide the strategic lines of cultural cooperation in the region and to enhance the importance of culture for sustainable development, law and social cohesion, as well as the culture of peace for full citizenship.

In its seven previous editions, the Ibero-American Congress on Culture has dealt with issues relevant to the region and has been attended by specialists and prominent personalities from the Ibero-American cultural sphere.
