The Diplomat
Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark and his wife, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, have been awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Elizabeth the Catholic, according to a Royal Decree of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs published on Monday by the Official Gazette of the State (BOE).
The distinction has been granted on the eve of the King and Queen of Spain making a state visit to Denmark, invited by Queen Margaret II.
The trip has been scheduled for next November 6 and 7 and Prince Joachim of Denmark, youngest son of the Sovereign, has also been decorated, as has his wife Marie of Denmark. Both have been distinguished with the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit.
Queen Margaret of Denmark was decorated in March 1980 with the Collar of the Order of Charles III, the highest civil distinction in Spain, which was then imposed on her by Kings Juan Carlos and Sofia, during their state visit to the Nordic country.
In addition, the Government has awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic to the private secretary of Margaret of Denmark, Henning Fode; and Colonel Kim Kristensen, Mr. Chamberlain.
Finally, the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit has also been awarded to the President of the Danish Parliament, Soren Gade Jensen; the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, Jakob Ellemann-Jensen; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lars Lokke Rasmussen; to the permanent secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, Barbara Beatrice Bertelsen, and to the Danish ambassador to Spain, Michael Braad.
