The exhibition Fotogramas de moda italiana: desde los años 50, Italia que viste al cine internacional (Italian fashion stills: since the 1950s, Italy has been dressing international cinema), curated by Stefano Dominella, Honorary President of Maison Gattinoni, and organised by the Instituto Italiano de Cultura in Madrid, under the auspices of the Italian Embassy, is on show at the Institute until 13 January 2024.
This exhibition tells the story of the film-fashion pairing, which has always been an effective and evocative tool for making Made in Italy known and promoting it abroad.
In the 1950s, it was Hollywood cinema that showed the world that a new “couture” trend was emerging in Italy and Rome, a trend that would eventually give birth to “Made in Italy”. In a short time, the capital was transformed into the “Hollywood of the Tiber” and the Italian dream factory.
From important private historical archives, the exhibition shows the dresses worn by iconic actresses who have marked and dictated new styles such as Lana Turner, Audrey Hepburn, Anita Ekberg, Anna Magnani, Sabrina Ferilli, Monica Bellucci, Gina Lollobrigida, Fanny Ardant, Charlotte Rampling, Liz Taylor, Claudia Cardinale, Penelope Cruz, Silvana Pampanini, Maria Callas and Sophia Loren.
Through 38 dresses, signed by famous designers, stylists and ateliers such as Fernanda Gattinoni, Renato Balestra, Emilio Schuberth, Alessandro Dell’Acqua, Sartoria Perruzzi, Annamode Costumes, Irene Galitzine, Laura Biagiotti, Guillermo Mariotto, etc., the exhibition Fotogramas de moda italiana tells the visitor this extraordinary story. The exhibition will be closed on Mondays and public holidays. Free admission.
