Casa América presents the book Evita frente al espejo: Ensayos sobre moda, estilo y política en Eva Perón (Evita in front of the mirror: Essays on fashion, style and politics in Eva Perón), a collection of essays that explore the figure of one of the most fascinating personalities in Argentine history through fashion.
Participating in the event will be Pablo Ramírez, Argentine designer; Marcelo Marino, editor of the book, and Ana Mosqueda, editorial director of Ampersand Ediciones. The dialogue will be followed by a fashion show by the Argentine designer Pablo Ramírez, who will present a series of dresses inspired by Eva Perón.
Eva Perón, first lady of Argentina during the presidency of Juan Domingo Perón and president of the Peronist Women’s Party, is not only one of the most fascinating personalities in the history of Argentina, but also a fashion icon. Eva’s style was unmistakable and developed at every stage of her short but intense artistic and political life. To explore the link between Eva and fashion is to understand a fundamental part of the construction of her myth.
The book looks at the 1947 tour of Europe and the collection of Spanish costumes she was given on that occasion. After the Second World War, Eva Perón witnessed the expansion of haute couture and was a client of designers such as Christian Dior, Jacques Fath and Salvatore Ferragamo. The work shows the complexity of the relationship between Peronist discourse and the construction of Eva’s public image.
This meeting is held with the support of the Argentine Foreign Ministry and has also been included as part of the programme of the Festival Eñe.
