Iberdrola has reached 41,303 renewable megawatts (MW) at the end of September, which represents a growth of 5.5% in the last year, after having installed almost 3,000 new MW in the last twelve months, according to data sent by the company to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV).
Thus, the renewable production of the group chaired by Ignacio Sánchez Galán increased by 6.1%, up to 58,742 gigawatt hours (GWh) in the period of January and September, compared to the same period of the previous year, Europa Press reports.
By technology, the growth of Iberdrola’s photovoltaic capacity stood out, which increased by 45.6% in the last 12 months – with 1,697 MW of new installed capacity – and stands at 5,420 MW at the end of the third quarter of 2023. In this way, this technology already represents 13% of the company’s total renewable energy.
The group’s growth in wind energy also stood out. Thus, offshore wind advanced by 28.6%, to 1,618 MW at the end of September 2023, with the incorporation of 360 new MW, now placing this technology at 1,618 MW.
In this regard, the energy company connected the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm to the French electricity grid, which it is building in the waters of French Brittany and which is the first large-scale offshore wind project in Brittany and the second in France to produce energy. clean.
Meanwhile, onshore wind grew by 4.5% in the last twelve months -after incorporating almost 900 new MW-, allowing it to reach 20,764 MW.
In this third quarter, the exchange of hydraulic plants -Dardanelos and Telepires- in Brazil with Eletrobras was also carried out, as reported by the company on September 27.
In this way, the group advances its historic investment plan of 47,000 million euros between 2023 and 2025, with which it aims to reach 52,000 MW of renewable installed power by 2025, with special importance in offshore wind, where the company has An investment of over 11,000 million euros is planned for 2026.
This greater contribution from renewable energies made Iberdrola raise its emissions-free production ratio to 81%, a percentage that in the case of Spain rises to 86%. Thus, the company maintains its CO2 emission level around 66% below its European competitors.
In terms of installed capacity, the investments made by the company mean that more than 81% of its own power is emissions-free, a percentage that reaches 91% in the United States, 88% in Brazil and maintains them at zero in the United Kingdom, where it is 100% green.
