Iliana Olivié, senior researcher at the Elcano Royal Institute, has been appointed to the position of director of the European Think Tank Group (ETTG), the pan-European network of think tanks with secretariat in Brussels.
As reported this past Monday by the Elcano Institute in a press release, Iliana Olivié, who has been appointed to the position after “a competitive open selection process,” will replace Geert Laporte, who has been director of the network since 2019. Olivié holds a PhD in Economics, is an associate professor at the Complutense University of Madrid, a member of the Spanish Council for Development Cooperation and vice president for policy engagement at the European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI).
Founded in 2010, the European Think Tank Group is a network of independent European think tanks that provides policy-relevant analysis on EU foreign policy and action towards the Global South. During 2023, the network has worked on various thematic areas, including the potential of development financing for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the green transition, EU development and partnership programs and tools, and EU-Africa relations in the current context of polycrisis.
The ETTG connects more than 400 policy researchers among its six members: the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM), the Elcano Royal Institute (Elcano), the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), the Institut du Développement Durable et des Relations Internationales (IDDRI), the German Institute for Development and Sustainability (IDOS) and the ODI.
