With the traditional “vivas” to Hidalgo and “to the heroes who gave us our homeland and freedom”, the Mexican ambassador, Quirino Ordaz, commemorated on Friday, in a packed square in Chamberi (Madrid), the Mexican bank holidays and the 213th anniversary of its independence.

The celebration was attended, in a festive and family atmosphere, by Mexicans living in Spain and Spaniards who joined in the commemoration, which included mariachis and traditional dances. Earlier in the morning, the ambassador laid a wreath at the monument to Miguel Hidalgo on Paseo de Moret.

Likewise, last Thursday evening, a reception was held at the Mexican ambassador’s residence to celebrate the 213th anniversary of Mexico’s National Day, which was attended by a large number of guests, as is customary in the North American country’s celebrations.

In his speech, Ambassador Quirino Ordaz Coppel remarked that “Spain forms an essential part of Mexico’s historical and cultural heritage, and the Mexico of today could not be understood without the influence of both Spanish and pre-Hispanic cultures. This common history and culture is precisely what gives strength to our bilateral relationship, which translates into the numerous human, commercial, economic, academic and cultural contacts between Mexico and Spain”.

“Today, the ambassador continued, Mexico is a stable, attractive country with great opportunities, both because of the strength of its economy and its institutions and because of its integration with the United States and Canada, which explains the significant and growing Spanish investments in our country. Spain, in turn, has become a very attractive place for Mexican investments, which are increasingly present in the different fields of the economy”.

Quirino Ordaz referred to President López Obrador’s express request to “continue strengthening the bilateral relationship in all its areas and actively promote cooperation, trade, tourism and investment”.

The reception was attended by numerous personalities from the Spanish business and political sector, along with the ambassadors of Colombia, Nicaragua, Oman, Qatar, Azerbaijan, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Kenya, Finland, Armenia and Cuba, among others.
